Laurie Lewis Design is a full service landscape design practice established in January 2001. Drawing on over fifteen years of academic and practical experience, Laurie Lewis is the principal designer.
Our design philosophy is based on the belief that our job is to reveal and enhance the essential qualities of each site -- the shape of the ground, the views, the architectural context, the quality of light -- all are ingredients that inform and guide our work. Thus, the firm does not have a particular style – instead we strive to design contextual landscapes that respond to the site, the architecture and the client’s desires.
We see the design of outdoor spaces as both a technical and an artistic endeavor, and always remain mindful of the practical considerations of program, maintenance, budget and sustainability.
We delight in working with our clients to create intimate spaces that invite outdoor living, entertaining and moments of quiet reflection. The resulting gardens are a beautifully crafted range of projects in which simplicity and clarity of design emerge as the common threads that tie the landscapes together.
Before opening her own office, Laurie worked for several years at the Landscape Design firm of Nancy Goslee Power & Associates. During that time, she managed both residential and institutional projects, acting as Project Designer for the Norton Simon Museum Sculpture Garden. Born and raised in Southern California, Laurie graduated from the University of California, Berkeley and continued her studies with a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles.
